| DESCRIPTION | | The Breede River Winelands region has the largest area of vineyards under irrigation in the Western Cape. The area itself receives little rainfall. Water is abstracted from the Breede River, which has its source much further to the north in the mountains near Ceres. The hot climate is perfect for fortified desert wines such as Hanepoot and Muscadel and several wines in the region have won awards. The major populated centres are Robertson, Ashton, Bonnievale and Montagu, each offering a range of activities. Besides the major activity (wine tasting), other activities include boat trips, canoe trips, mountain biking, hiking and relaxing in the hot mineral springs of the Montagu Springs Resort. |
